Mr. M. Singh, a young man of 19 years, was in the final year of his college education. While at school he excelled in sports, was good runner, a good cricketer, and very good at basket ball. At college he was equally good in cricket and basket ball, and in fact could not choose which game to adopt. At college he had taken commerce as subject and it was time to think about his future. There were various options: should he become a chartered accountant and adopt that as a profession, or should he join his father in a very well established business or should he accept an offer from his maternal uncle in U.S.A to join him in business as he had no male child to succeed him in business. There were also offers from friends to start some new venture. His parents had left the final choice to him. The boy was rather puzzled, and sought our advice.
WILD OAT was given to him T.D.S for one week, when he could settle finally to join his father’s business, thus ending his mental conflict once and for all.

Hamamelis (witch hazel) is, in the experience of the North American Indians, one of the important wound-healing remedies. It has gained a deserved place in modern medicine too.

Sunlight of a certain wavelength is especially intense in the mountains and by the sea, changing white tyrosine to a brown colour. This pigment, which tans the skin so beautifully, is on the one hand a protection against burns and on the other, a stimulus for the manufacture of antibodies for various infectious diseases, especially tuberculosis and diseases of the throat and chest.

As individuals it seems that we are still not well enough informed about the importance of sunlight for our well-being. Otherwise we would find out just how much or how little can benefit our health. If we were to put our children on a natural diet rich in calcium and let them spend more time in the open air and sunlight, rickets and scrofula (tuberculosis of the lymphatic glands) would be unknown. The ultraviolet rays change ergosterol, which is present in the human body, into vitamin D. And it is generally known that a deficiency in calcium and vitamin D is mainly responsible for rickets and lymphatic problems.

Beauty and well-being are highly dependent upon the general tone and buoyancy of the body, and both are significantly increased by exposure to sunlight.

For a long time the existence of viruses remained unknown, perhaps for the reason that they are much smaller than bacteria and invisible even under an ordinary microscope. However, since the invention of powerful ultramicroscopes and electron microscopes it has been possible to use more sophisticated methods of investigation and make viruses visible. We have therefore been able to learn more about what they do and the dangers they pose to man and beast. In the case of bacteria, specific medicines have been developed that retard and stop their multiplication and growth, in some cases actually destroying them. But viruses are much tougher and in no way affected by, say, antibiotics. Little has so far been achieved in finding a way to combat them successfully.

Some twenty years ago, one of my patients displayed certain symptoms which made me suspect a virus as being the cause of her illness. The woman, a Yugoslavian, complained about unnatural tiredness, accompanied by headaches, susceptibility to colds and catarrh, loss of appetite and intestinal trouble. It seemed as if everything in her body was upset. Her symptoms reminded me of a condition I had read about in a medical publication, for which a virus was to blame. The fact that all known herbal and homoeopathic remedies had failed to bring her relief strengthened my suspicion that nothing but this specific virus could be responsible for her condition.
Our body is a harmoniously cooperating organisation of single cells, similar to the many individual citizens in a country. The earth’s population is now five billion, a tremendous number when you think about it, but relatively small in comparison with the total of about 100 trillion (100,000,000,000,000) cells that make up the body of an adult person. And this miracle, the human cell, is on average only 0.02 mm (1/1000 inch) in diameter. If you want to get some idea of this tiny structure, take a soft-boiled egg as a comparison. On the outside is the cell membrane (the shell), then we find the cell plasma (the white) surrounding and protecting the nucleus (the yolk), the most important, highly organised and complex part of this tiny unit – the control centre.
