ARTHRITIS AND GOUT – THE LIVING CELL

The cell is a tiny but perfectly designed and incredible unit of every living thing on earth. Like so many other things it is a miracle of Creation. Our body is a harmoniously cooperating organisation of single cells, similar to the many individual citizens in a country. The earth’s population is now five billion, a tremendous number when you think about it, but relatively small in comparison with the total of about 100 trillion (100,000,000,000,000) cells that make up the body of an adult person. And this miracle, the human cell, is on average only 0.02 mm (1/1000 inch) in diameter. If you want to get some idea of this tiny structure, take a soft-boiled egg as a comparison. On the outside is the cell membrane (the shell), then we find the cell plasma (the white) surrounding and protecting the nucleus (the yolk), the most important, highly organised and complex part of this tiny unit – the control centre.
